Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up living in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. Mitchell joined CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington she was made general correspondent by NBC News two year later. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the main congressional reporter. Mitchell was named as the head White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell has appeared as the host and panelist for the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist in the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in journalism. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first journalist to write about White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure as president from 1981-1988. Mitchell covered a wide range of notable stories, including the Iran-Contra scandal as well as fiscal tax reforms, as well as arms control. Mitchell traveled with President Ronald Reagan several times to summits and debate topics such as and the Iran Contra scandal.
